The Lichtenstein Trio comprises three leading Czech chamber musicians and teachers – Leoš Čepický (violin), Michal Kaňka (cello) and Lukáš Klánský (piano). The ensemble grew out of its members’ long-standing artistic and pedagogical collaboration and builds on the shared interpretative experience they have gained during numerous concert performances both at home and abroad. The trio’s repertoire encompasses the finest works of piano trio literature, ranging from the Classical period to 20th-century music, with the ensemble’s interpretative approach based on a combination of technical mastery, stylistic refinement and natural musical communication.
The name ‘Lichtenstein Trio’ refers to the Lichtenstein Palace in Prague, the historic home of the Faculty of Music and Dance at the Academy of Performing Arts (HAMU), where all three members teach and play a significant role in nurturing a new generation of Czech performers.
The Lichtenstein Trio brings together three musicians with extensive international experience who, alongside their individual careers, share a common passion for chamber music, profound interpretative expertise and a commitment to teaching. Their ensemble playing is built on mutual trust, a long-standing artistic dialogue and respect for the musical legacy of both Czech and international chamber music.
