Tibor Iván (1988) comes from Veľký Krtíš and decided to pursue a professional career in the accordion at the age of eight. He received his primary artistic education in his hometown under the guidance of Jozef Škamla. In 2003, he continued his studies at the J. L. Bell Conservatory in Banská Bystrica in the class of Igor Vlach, who inspired him to switch from keyboard to button accordion – a decision that Tibor considers crucial in his solo career. He started this at the age of 17 with a recital in Hungary. In 2009, he began his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where in June 2016 he completed his complete university studies in the field of solo accordion playing – classical music, under the guidance of renowned concert accordionist and pedagogue Mika Väyrynen. He has also completed master classes with leading world teachers.
He is the holder of several awards from domestic and international competitions, grants and was also sponsored by the Rotary Club Banská Bystrica. As a soloist, he performed at various music festivals in Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Romania, Croatia,. He works primarily as a soloist, but also in various chamber groups. Since 2009 he has lived and worked in Finland. He taught at the Pori Conservatory, as well as at nine music schools in different parts of Finland. He gained his first teaching experience in 2008 at the Primary School in Pohronska Polhora. He has led master classes in Sweden, Croatia, Finland, and Slovakia. In his interpretation, he focuses not only on contemporary accordion music, but also on music from various stylistic periods. His recitals often include works by Baroque composers or arrangements of compositions by piano masters such as P.I. Tchaikovsky, Alexander Scriabin, Franz Liszt, and others.
