The Stamic Quartet was founded in 1985. The original members were B. Matoušek – violin, J. Kekula – violin, J. Pěruška – viola, V. Leixner – violoncello. Both violinists were born in Havlíčkův Brod, so the quartet chose the name of Jan Václav Stamic, a native of this town. The present members of the quartet are : Jindřich Pazdera, violin – Josef Kekula, violin – Jan Pěruška, viola – and Petr Hejný, cello. The Quartet are renowned for their intepretations of quartet music, especially of the Central Eyropean repertoire, of all periods. They particpated in the first Levoca Festival and have often returned so it is a special pleasure to have them at the 2020 Indian Summer.
